Terms of Use for Plausio
Last updated: October 11, 2026
This is a translation of the German original. In case of discrepancies, the German version prevails. https://plausio.app/nutzungsbedingungen/
Plausio is distributed via Apple's App Store. The license for the app is governed by Apple's Standard License Agreement (Licensed Application End User License Agreement, "Standard EULA"): https://www.apple.com/legal/internet-services/itunes/dev/stdeula/
The following terms supplement the Standard EULA. In the event of any conflict, the Standard EULA prevails.
1. Provider and Scope
1.1 The provider of Plausio is COPAtec GmbH, In der Henn 47, 50354 Hürth, Germany, info@copatec.de ("we").
1.2 These terms apply to the use of the Plausio app for macOS, iPadOS and iOS ("App").
1.3 Deviating terms of users do not apply.
2. What Plausio Is – and What It Is Not
2.1 Plausio helps you examine public social media content for indications of disinformation, bot behavior and coordinated campaigns with the help of artificial intelligence (AI).
2.2 Results from Plausio are AI assessments – indications, not proof. AI models can make mistakes, misclassify content, misrepresent sources or establish connections that do not exist. Values such as a disinformation score or an assessment of coordinated activity are estimates and not findings of fact.
2.3 Plausio is not a tool for establishing the identity of persons, for criminal prosecution, for securing evidence or for the legal assessment of statements.
3. Scope of Services
3.1 Plausio analyzes comment sections on YouTube, X and Instagram (for Instagram, only posts of your own Business or Creator account), among other things for copy-and-paste clusters, comment waves, new accounts, suspicious accounts (displayed as aliases), narratives with fact-checking, and discussions. An analysis of individual persons or profiles is not included.
3.2 Free use: local analysis without AI, analysis and chat with Apple Intelligence (if available on the device) or with your own Ollama server, AI reports as short reports, history of up to 5 reports, no export. For retrieving YouTube data, Plausio provides access whose daily quota is shared by all users; once it is exhausted, retrieval is not possible until the next day unless you enter your own YouTube API key. For X and Instagram, you need your own access credentials for the respective platform; X bills the costs of the X API directly to you.
3.3 "Own Keys" (subscription or one-time purchase): all features of the app, in particular AI analysis and chat with Anthropic (Claude), OpenAI, Gemini (Google) or DeepSeek using your own API keys, detailed reports, export and full history.
3.4 The availability of individual features depends on third-party providers (e.g. the interfaces of YouTube, X, Instagram, the AI providers or Apple Intelligence). If these providers change or restrict their services, the corresponding feature may be restricted or discontinued.
3.5 Reply suggestions: Plausio can create drafts for replies to individual comments. Plausio does not publish anything: you decide yourself whether to edit a draft and post it from your own account, and you are responsible for its content. With Apple Intelligence or Ollama the feature is free; with the other AI providers it is part of "Own Keys".
4. API Keys and Third-Party Providers
4.1 For AI analysis with cloud services, you need your own accounts with third-party providers (Anthropic, OpenAI, Google, DeepSeek or ollama.com). You enter into your own contracts with these providers for this purpose and must comply with their terms. Which data is sent to which provider is described in the Privacy Policy: https://plausio.app/en/privacy/
4.2 Costs incurred with third-party providers through your use (e.g. for AI requests) are billed directly to you by the respective provider. They are not included in the price of Plausio. Plausio may display estimates; the provider's billing is authoritative.
4.3 You are responsible for the security of your API keys. Plausio stores them in your device's keychain.
5. Responsible Use Policy
Plausio is intended to help make the manipulation of public debates visible – not to harm people. By using it, you undertake the following:
5.1 No surveillance of private individuals. You will not use Plausio to deliberately monitor private individuals, track their activities over an extended period or create profiles about them.
5.2 No harassment, public shaming or doxing. You will not use results to harass, intimidate, expose, threaten or publicly denounce persons. You will not attempt to use Plausio to determine or publish the real identity, address, workplace or other private information of account holders. Aliases (e.g. K1, K2) must not be re-identified through your own research in order to expose persons.
5.3 No inferences about sensitive characteristics. You will not use Plausio to draw inferences about particularly sensitive characteristics of individual persons, such as racial or ethnic origin, political opinions, religious or philosophical beliefs, trade union membership, health, sex life or sexual orientation.
5.4 AI results are not proof. Results must be independently verified before any publication or disclosure. You will not label persons as a "bot", "troll", "disinformation agent" or similar solely on the basis of Plausio, and when publishing, you will make clear that the findings are AI-assisted assessments. Pay particular attention to personality rights and the law governing statements (e.g. the prohibition of untrue statements of fact).
5.5 Comply with platform terms. You will comply with the terms of use and policies of the platforms and interfaces used, in particular the YouTube Terms of Service (https://www.youtube.com/t/terms), the developer terms of X (https://developer.x.com/en/developer-terms) and Meta (https://developers.facebook.com/terms/), and the terms of the AI provider you have chosen.
5.6 Comply with the law. You are yourself responsible for your analyses and the use of the results and will comply with applicable law, in particular data protection law (GDPR). Insofar as you process personal data of third parties, you are, as a rule, yourself the controller within the meaning of the GDPR.
5.7 No manipulation. You will not use Plausio to plan, optimize or disguise coordinated campaigns, bot networks or disinformation yourself. You will post reply suggestions only from your own account – not via multiple accounts, not automatically and not en masse under many comments.
5.8 Consequences of violations. In the event of serious or repeated violations, we may terminate the right of use for good cause. Statutory claims remain unaffected.
6. Right of Use
6.1 The scope and duration of the right of use, the number of devices and Family Sharing are governed by the Standard EULA and the App Store rules.
6.2 You may not decompile or modify the app or circumvent protection mechanisms, unless this is permitted by law (Sections 69d, 69e UrhG – German Copyright Act).
6.3 The reports you create belong to you. You do not acquire any rights to analyzed third-party content through the analysis.
7. Purchases and Subscriptions
7.1 The prices displayed in the App Store at the time of purchase apply.
7.2 Purchases and subscriptions are handled exclusively by Apple. Subscriptions renew automatically unless they are canceled in your Apple Account settings at least 24 hours before the end of the billing period.
7.3 Payment, refunds and the right of withdrawal are governed by Apple's terms (https://www.apple.com/legal/internet-services/itunes/).
8. Warranty
8.1 The statutory provisions apply.
8.2 Due to the nature of AI models and the dependence on third-party providers, we do not warrant that analysis results are accurate in content, complete or up to date. We owe an app that provides the described features.
9. Liability
9.1 We are liable without limitation for intent and gross negligence, for injury to life, body or health, under the Produkthaftungsgesetz (German Product Liability Act) and to the extent of any guarantee assumed.
9.2 In the event of a slightly negligent breach of a material contractual obligation (an obligation whose fulfillment is essential for the proper performance of the contract and on whose observance you may regularly rely), our liability is limited to the foreseeable damage typical for this type of contract. Otherwise, liability for slight negligence is excluded.
9.3 We are not liable for damage resulting from your publishing results without your own verification or violating Section 5, nor for costs or outages at third-party providers, insofar as we are not responsible for them.
10. Changes to These Terms
We may amend these terms with effect for the future if there is an objective reason to do so (e.g. new features, changes at third-party providers or in the legal situation). We will inform you of material changes in the app in good time beforehand.
11. Final Provisions
11.1 German law applies, excluding the UN Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods (CISG). For consumers, this choice of law applies only insofar as it does not deprive them of the protection of mandatory consumer protection provisions of the country of their habitual residence.
11.2 If the user is a merchant (Kaufmann), a legal entity under public law or a special fund under public law, the place of jurisdiction is Cologne (Köln).
11.3 We are neither obliged nor willing to participate in dispute resolution proceedings before a consumer arbitration board.
11.4 Should individual provisions be invalid, the validity of the remaining provisions remains unaffected.
